Asian Actors Association wants to help parents by providing the tools and information needed to better guide their children to the entertainment industry. We’ve pulled together a special guide for parents to learn more about casting, film, TV, Entertainment Requirements and things to avoid. Following informations and site links will help parents in doing so.
Filmratings.com
Filmratings.com is the official movie ratings site of the MPAA’s Classification and Ratings Administration. The website features a database where parents can search for films rated as far back as 1968 – the birth year of the ratings system – searchable by title, year or rating. Other features include detailed explanations of the process and history of the system, ratings definitions, answers to frequently asked questions, and a place for parents to sign-up for Red Carpet Ratings – a free weekly email service that provides ratings information on current films. The site also features a section on the MPAA’s Advertising Administration which provides a crucial service to parents in ensuring that movie advertising is appropriately placed before the right audience. Every film that is submitted for an MPAA rating is required to have its advertising approved by the Advertising Administration before it is displayed to the public.
Coogan Law
Children in the entertainment industry who lives in State of California, New York, Louisiana and New Mexico will need to know about Coogan Law.
The California ‘Coogan Law’ was enacted in 1939 to protect child entertainers from financial abuse. The law resulted from the experience of silent picture star Jackie Coogan who earned millions as a child, but was left broke at the age of 18 because his parents had squandered his earnings. Recent amendments to the Coogan Law include Senate Bill 1162 and Senate Bill 210, which were passed to better ensure that a sufficient portion of a child’s earnings under specific entertainment, sports and similar contracts is set aside in trust and preserved for the child’s future.
